PENDLETON – Residents of the Lower McKay Creek Water Control District can get updated on what has happened and is planned for flood mitigation. The district is hosting an informational meeting at Pendleton Community Park at 5:30 p.m. today (Thursday).

“They will be given an update on the county, the water control district and the city and the efforts that have gone into the increased risk of flooding,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency requires areas have a natural hazards mitigation plan in place to be eligible for FEMA funding in the event of floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters. The plans expire every five years, and Corbett said a yeoman’s effort went into quickly creating a new plan.

“The city staff along with county and other communities in Umatilla County all worked together to update this plan in a real short order,” Corbett said. The Pendleton City Council endorsed the plan at its meeting Tuesday night.
