A grant to help with the new regional food bank

LA GRANDE – (Information provided by Community Connections)  The Wildhorse Foundation recently awarded $20,000 to Community Connection of Northeast Oregon, Inc. for the Northeast Oregon Regional Food Bank Distribution Center.
The new distribution center, located at 10213 N McAlister in Island City, is scheduled to open in late July or early August.
The Wildhorse Foundation funds are allocated toward structural changes and installation of industrial freezers and coolers.

Since 1969, Community Connection has provided a highly diverse and comprehensive range of services to ameliorate poverty and assist individuals and families to achieve personal, social, and economic self-sufficiency.
Community Connection has operated Northeast Oregon Regional Food Bank since 1985.
Last year the regional food bank provided over 1.6 million pounds of food to people in Baker, Grant, Union, and Wallowa counties.
A network of 24 partner agencies serves up to 6,000 residents each month with food boxes and 2,500 visits each month to produce distribution sites.

The Wildhorse Foundation was established in 2001 to formalize the charitable giving on behalf of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) and its Wildhorse Resort & Casino.
The CTUIR is committed to honoring tribal traditions of sharing and giving back to communities in which they live and work.
