PENDLETON – Pendleton Fire & Ambulance has been upgraded from a Class 4 to a Class 3 rating from Insurance Services Office, Inc. The change goes into effect on Sept. 1, and may help residents living within the area to obtain lower insurance costs.

The lower rates are possible for all residences and businesses within the city limits, neighboring fire districts, or those who contract with the city for fire protection. ISO is the leading supplier of data and analytics for the property and casualty insurance industry.

The rating is based on four factors. They are the department’s ability to receive and respond to fire alarms; a review of its equipment, personnel, and training; the community water supply system; and communications.

It’s very exciting that Pendleton was able to reduce our ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule from a four to a three,” Fire Chief Jim Critchley said. “As improvements are made to the infrastructure in the community and to the fire department, a positive effect may be to lower business and residential insurance costs.”

Property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance companies regarding the new rating to see if they qualify for lower rates.
