PENDLETON – Police Chief Chuck Byram is making changes that involve promotions to detective for two officers.
One will see Community Resource Officer Shelly Studebaker promoted to detective specializing in children and families. Byram said she will be working in the same area she currently serves, but will bring more weight to investigations with her title.
“She will concentrate on crimes against children, and work with DHS (Department of Human Services) and the mental health component of it,” he said.
Studebaker’s promotion will occur on July 1.
Byram’s other promotion has yet to be named. One of the patrol officers will be promoted to detective and exclusively work on property crimes. There has been an uptick in property crimes and the chief said that officer will work all hours of the day and night.
“This individual is going to go out and try to curb criminal activity that we’re seeing based on drug users – all of their thievery, burglarizing, and criminal mischief,” Byram said.
