Small wildfire contained southwest of Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON – Resources responded to a small wildfire on Sunday, according to wildcad.net. The Lime Creek fire, around 12 and a half miles southwest of Mt. Vernon was called in around 2:34 Sunday afternoon. By 4:45 it was contained and controlled by firefighters. It only grew to .27 acres, and a cause was not listed.

The Oregon Department of Forestry’s John Day Unit remind the public that fire season begins today (June 1st, 2021) for local ODF-protected lands. That means the burning of yard debris and burn barrels is no longer permitted on lands protected by ODF. Also prohibited are the use of fuse and caps for blasting, unless granted approval; as well as the discharge of tracer ammunition and exploding targets inside the district or within an eighth-of-a-mile.
