The driver, identified as Mesha McCathron (40 yoa), and her passenger told deputies that the vehicle ran out of gas.
Deputies left the occupants to retrieve fuel. Upon their return, the male passenger was no longer with the vehicle. After performing a check, deputies determined that the passenger was David Alan Boaz (50 yoa) of Salem, OR. Boaz had a nationwide felony warrant for Sexual Abuse I and had absconded from parole. Deputies searched the area for Boaz throughout the night.
In the early morning hours of May 23rd, deputies spoke with residents in the Keating area asking them to call Dispatch if they spotted anyone matching the suspectโs description. At approximately 8:05 a.m., a resident notified Dispatch that he saw the suspect walking near the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Deputies arrived and took Boaz into custody without incident.
The Baker County Sheriffโs Office was assisted by the Baker City Police Department. We are grateful for the observant citizens who remained diligent, which ultimately led to this arrest.
