PENDLETON – Pendleton Fire Chief Jim Critchley has an offer for four Blue Mountain Community College students who are thinking about a career in public safety for the fall term.

“It’s that time of the year that we’re looking for people just out of high school looking to go to college and think firefighting may be something they want to do,” he said. “We’re looking for resident interns.”

Critchley said being a resident intern is a great way to gain experience while still in college.

“We would love to put you up and help you pay for college,” he said. “Your commitment would be to help us out during the school year while we run calls and help this community.”

In addition to free housing, the program pays for half of their college fees and tuition while offering free fire and medical training as well as the same compensation as given to volunteer firefighters, estimated at between $700 to more than $2,400 monthly.
