To mask or not to mask

PENDLETON – Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chairman George Murdock says the county is taking the safe route regarding wearing masks. Both Gov. Kate Brown and the Department of Health have taken the Centers for Disease Control recommendation to heart and say the fully vaccinated do not need masks.

Murdock says the fines that are being levied in Oregon don’t come from Brown or DOH. They come from OSHA.

“We have seen nothing in writing that contracts the OSHA rule, so we’re just going on with business as usual,” he said.

Meanwhile, Murdock said he hopes the county begins to see a fall in new cases of COVID-19. “Our numbers were higher this week than we wanted,” he said. “We’re finding out from our contact tracers that predominately it was from family gatherings.”
