PENDLETON – Road work is on the agenda for the city of Pendleton this summer. Mayor John Turner said that a large number of projects are due to bids being lower than anticipated more work is on tap than originally planned.
The city was planning on slurry sealing 22 blocks, but that’s more than doubled.
“This additional work that’s still within budget adds about 37 blocks of slurry seal for a total of about 59 blocks with the money that we had budgeted for originally for about 22 blocks,” Turner said.
Overlay projects planned by the city were budgeted at $1 million, anticipating it could do 18 blocks of overlay work – which can be as dramatic as having to rebuild an entire road that’s crumbled to gravel Turner said the bid was for $850,000.
“We got the company to agree to do some more work for us at that price, and so that added three more blocks of overlay work,” he said.
