PENDLETON – Can we make a better COVID-19 vaccine? Just like building a better mousetrap, that question is being asked. Umatilla County Public Health Officer Dr. Jon Hitzman said the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are holding up to the test of time.
“The Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines are 94 to 95 percent effective,” Hitzman said. “When you look at some of our flu shot vaccines that we’ve had in the past, there have been some years where it’s only been 30 percent effective.”
He added that he’s also impressed that the effectiveness has remained unchanged.
“That was data that they published from their initial studies and has held true after multiple millions of doses have been given out,” he said.
