PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council plans on reworking its goals for the city at its meeting at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday). The council took a look at the results of a citizens’ survey in updating those goals.

The four goals being considered are to increase the availability of housing for all income levels; develop sustainable infrastructure funding for the construction, operation, and maintenance of public buildings, roads, and utilities; increase economic development activities; and improve communication between the community and the city council, mayor, and municipal staff.

The council has already approved a slurry seal project for this summer with Pave Northwest. They are being asked by city staff to expand those projects to include 22 more blocks of work. The original contract of a little more than $75,000 would increase to just over $128,000. Staff says because the original bid came in below what was budgeted, it recommends getting more work done at prices that are almost the same per square yard as they were last year.

The council will also consider a bid award for the city’s summer overlay projects. The low bidder is Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. of Moses Lake for $847,844.44.

A public hearing will be held on creating a reimbursement district ordinance. The council is then expected to vote on the proposal that would provide developers with a way to recapture money spent on planning and development of housing projects.

The meeting is available via Zoom. The ID is 848 8298 2122 and the pass code is 248854.
