BAKER COUNTY – (Release by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On April 28, 2021 at approximately 7:07 p.m., an Oregon State Police Senior Trooper notified the Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch of a pursuit in progress on I84 westbound near Baker City. Due to excessive speeds, the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety.
Shortly after termination, the suspect vehicle was located exiting I84 and traveling eastbound on Highway 86 toward Richland. As Baker City Police Department officers followed the vehicle, it initiated a U-turn. Officers deployed spike strips, which disabled the vehicle causing it to come to rest in a ditch at Lindley Lane and Highway 86. The driver, identified as Clayton Ted Snell (36 yoa), exited the vehicle and attempted to flee. After a brief foot chase, Snell was taken into custody by Baker County Sheriff’s deputies.
Snell was charged with Attempt to Elude Police-Vehicle, Attempt to Elude Police-Foot, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief II, and DUII and lodged at the Baker County Jail. This investigation is ongoing.
