Iconic bronze branch to be unveiled

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. Friday and it will feature the unveiling of the limb from one of the London plane trees cast in bronze.
The exact replica of the limb near the bandstand is one that stood strong as generations of residents played on and around it. It was determined to be so decayed in 2019 that it was a danger. Segments of the limb were retained and transported to the Walla Walla Foundry, where the replica was cast. It is being donated to the city by Patty and the late Mark Anderson as a gift to the community.
“We want to thank the Anderson family and the Walla Walla Foundry for their generous donation,” Parks and Recreation Director Andy Coleman stated. “This unique project will ensure residents can continue to enjoy the limb for generations to come.”
The event will be held in the central circle at Pioneer Park and will also include the presentation of the Arbor Day award and the planting of a tree. Attendees must wear facial coverings and people who aren’t in the same households are asked to maintain six feet of distance from others.
