PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council continues to work on attracting more housing to the city. Mayor John Turner said that the city is considering an ordinance that would help developers recoup start-up costs.

“What a reimbursement district does is it provides a means for financing and planning for infrastructure improvements so the building can get his money back for these improvements,” Turner said.

“It’s another tool in the tool box to help people get development going,” City Manager Robb Corbett said. “Infrastructure is very costly up front.”

The council had the first reading of a prepared ordinance at its last regular meeting. Turner expects a public hearing and vote on the proposal to take place at the May 4 meeting. It will also be discussed at the council work session today (Tuesday).
