LA GRANDE – (Information provided by the La Grande School District) La Grande School District is pleased to announce, pending board approval, Dawn Guentert will become the principal at Greenwood Elementary School, filling a vacancy created by current principal Ryan Weskenskow, who has accepted an administrator position with North Santiam School District.
Dawn Guentert is currently the principal of Clara Brownell Middle School in Umatilla, Oregon, a position she has held for the past three years. Dawn was a high school science teacher for the Umatilla School District for eight years and then served as their K-12 instructional coach for the three years before obtaining the principal position. Prior to Umatilla, Dawn was a science teacher at the middle school and high school levels with the Elgin School District.
Dawn received her BS in biology and her masters in teaching from EOU. She studied administration with George Fox University.
Guentert has been a resident of Union County and has lived in La Grande for nearly 30 years. She is extremely thankful to be able to serve the community she has loved by accepting the position of principal for Greenwood elementary. For Dawn, this opportunity is a dream fulfilled. Additionally, Guentert believes that the key to effective student achievement starts with creating a safe environment that is built on strong relationships and support. She believes that student achievement is a byproduct of those connections and she looks forward to building those strong relationships with our students, staff, and families!
Guentert will begin her new position on July 1, 2021. We look forward to having her as part of our school district!
