‘Top Chef’ to tackle First Foods

MISSION – The highly competitive cooking show “Top Chef” is basing its current season in Portland, and one episode will pay tribute to the culinary history of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

“The contestants honor the Umatilla Tribe while cooking with tribal first foods, I’m sure many of which were foods they had never heard of before,” CTUIR spokeswoman Jane Hill said.

Hill and others involved with the production had to sign nondisclosure agreements, so she has to keep mum on details surrounding the show. She’s enthusiastic about the little she can say.

“The episode speaks of our region and talks about the foods that are native to the area,” she said. “I can’t wait to see it.”
