COLORADO SPRINGS – The best professional bull riders are heading to Pendleton’s Happy Canyon Arena for the Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale the second full week of September. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Pendleton Round-Up, and Happy Canyon announced today that the last event on the tour will take place in the Happy Canyon Arena Sept. 13 and 14.
The event is occurring in place of the Pendleton PBR Classic, which began in 1998.
“We’re going to bring the top 24 PRCA professional bull riders to town and we’re going to have a Monday/Tuesday night event and you’re going to see some bigger-name bull riders participate in the Happy Canyon Arena,” Round-Up Publicity Director Pat Reay said. “To top that off, we’re going to get to crown the tour finale champion.”
The total purse for the event is $110,000 which makes it a key step on the road to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.
“The Pendleton Round-Up is one of the most iconic rodeos in the world,” PRCA CEO George Taylor stated. “This is an incredible opportunity to crown ProRodeo’s bull riding tour champion on an amazing stage.”
The event will consist of two rounds the first day and a third long-go and progressive round the second day.
“Adding another signature event to the week of Round-Up will provide our fans the opportunity to watch the crowning of the Xtreme Bulls champion,” Happy Canyon and Pendleton Round-Up Bulls and Concert Chairman Kipp Curtis said.
Hosting the finale means national coverage for the Round-Up City.
“The road to the NFR is going to run definitely through Pendleton,” Reay said. “We’re going to have national TV coverage. This is going to be aired on the Cowboy Channel and we’re going to have live streaming on the Cowboy Channel Plus app.”
The date tickets will go on sale has not yet been announced.
