WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council meets today (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. and will set public hearing dates for three annexation requests as well as consider a request from Early Repass Golf LLC that it be let out of its contract to manage the Veterans Golf Course 25 months before its contract with the city is set to expire.

In a letter to City Manager Nabiel Shawa, Chris Repass and Mike Early asked to terminate the lease on Dec. 1. They said they are making the request based on their desire to step away from the daily responsibility of running a business and spend more time with their families.

“Ironically, the pandemic was a boon to the golf business, and we had our best year since we took over in 2014,” they wrote.

The two stated that they believe there will be a number of capable candidates to manage the course. They offer to work with the city in helping them select the next lease holder.

The council will vote on setting May 12 as the date for public hearings on annexation requests for Cottonwood Road at Ransom Road, Reser Road and Fern Avenue, and at Prospect Avenue and Williams Road.

Also on the agenda: Authorizing a contract with David Evans & Associates for the final design and right-of-way on the Poplar Street-Colville to Fifth project; and authorizing an agreement with the Port of Walla Walla, the Mill Creek Flood Control District, and the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation for cost sharing for the Mill Creek infrastructure improvement design and construction.

The meeting is streamed live on the city’s website
