Scooters could be on the horizon

PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council meets today (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and dockless vehicles is on the agenda. An international company has requested a business license which would see the electric vehicles distributed throughout Pendleton. People could then rent them using a mobile app. The company in question is planning on using Razor scooters
In order to accommodate such a business, city staff is proposing ordinances that would govern such businesses including rules for where they may be parked, ridden, and rebalanced. The rules would also require the use of helmets and that riders be 18 or older. The council is also considering a separate proposal that would allow certain motorized vehicles in parks, like handicapped scooters, bikes, and skateboards.
The council is being asked to award the chlorine system conversion project at the wastewater treatment plant to Mike Becker General Contractor of La Grande. The total cost of the project to switch from gas chlorine to liquid chlorine is estimated at just under $466,000.
Also on the agenda, a resolution to accept jurisdiction over Southwest 17th Place and a 175-foot portion of Southwest Perkins Avenue in the Tutuilla Heights subdivision.
