Keep your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in working order

BAKER COUNTY – Winter can often mean power outages. The Oregon State Fire Marshal is reminding citizen’s that if they have hardwired smoke alarms, to test your smoke alarm batteries to ensure they are working properly. Most hardwired smoke alarms have a backup battery and a low battery signal (chirp).
If there are extended outages, like recently took place in Western Oregon, batteries can drain and could stop working. Change the batteries per the smoke alarm manufacturer’s recommendations. If the smoke alarm is over 10 years old, it’s time to replace the entire unit.
In addition don’t forget to check to Carbon Monoxide Detectors as well.
