WALLA WALLA – The third-party company hired by Walla Walla Public Schools has performed a COVD-19 preparedness review of the middle and high schools, and has found there are adequate controls and protocols in place to allow in-person learning in a safe and healthy environment.
The assessment performed by NV5/DADE MOELLER’s Certified Industrial Hygienist Stephen Bump was done at Garrison and Pioneer middle schools, Lincoln and Walla Walla high schools, and SEATech.
“We confirmed that the documents and protocols developed by the district were consistent with the guidance promulgated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the Washington State Department of Health, and the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health,” Bump wrote in his executive summary.
The audit included checking cleaning protocols, masking guidelines and staff training. The testing showed that WWPS secondary schools either met or exceeded guidelines. Sixth grade students will return to schools for an AM/PM Hybrid schedule tomorrow (Tuesday). Seventh and eighth graders return using the same model Thursday.
Meanwhile, the district is monitoring local COVID metrics and will return high school students to the same hybrid schedule as soon as the state-mandated targets are met.
