District announces hiring of new Central School Principal

LA GRANDE – La Grande School District is excited to announce, effective July 1, 2021, Monica West will become the new principal at Central Elementary school, filling a vacancy created by retiring principal Suzy Mayes.
West is in her second year as assistant principal at Central Elementary. Prior to joining the La Grande School District, West was with the Olympia School District for 25 years, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, middle school assistant principal and elementary school principal during her tenure in Olympia, Washington. Overall, West has 13 years of experience as a building administrator.
Superintendent George Mendoza commented, “Every child deserves to have a principal that will set high expectations and provide a loving and motivating environment where staff members are supported to educate the whole child as well as meet or exceed state standards. I am pleased that we have found that in Monica West.”
