WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Regional Airport reported to law enforcement that a bomb threat was received this afternoon (Friday) at 1:23 p.m. The airport officials told officers the threat asked for money to prevent a device form detonating on a controlled timer.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office reports that the building and surrounding area was immediately evacuated, and the appropriate federal authorities were also notified. Among those responding were the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad, agents from the Transportation Security Administration, and surrounding police and fire departments.
It was determined at about an hour later that the threat was not credible. The building was searched and was deemed to be safe.
WWCSO reports that the threat is identical to others which have been received around the country. This was confirmed by TSA all the way up the chain of command to Washington, D.C., according to the prepared statement.
The sheriff’s office issued thanks to the people who acted swiftly at the airport and to the first responders who responded to protect the public.
