COVID-19 cases at Hanford are due to community spread

RICHLAND – Over the past year, there have been more than 650 COVID-19 cases at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Some of the cases have occurred at work sites managed by 13 different contractors. Other cases are just identified as Hanford workers according to the Benton-Franklin Health District.
The district states that contact tracing by both Hanford and the health district the positive results came from both on-site employees and off-site Hanford employees who are working from home.
The district said that what has been going on at Hanford is going on throughout the community because the cases are due to community spread, not a workplace outbreak.
“The safety of our employees is our top priority,” a statement from the Hanford Site reads. “We want our employees, colleagues from across the Hanford Site, and the community to know we are prepared for this situation and are working diligently to mitigate its potential impact.”
Several of the contractors at Hanford has also made its own employees aware of COVID-19 policies and guidelines.
