HERMISTON – Hermiston School Superintendent Tricia Mooney is waiting for more guidance from the Oregon Department of Education regarding reopening schools. Meanwhile, she is planning a small step forward next week.
“There are all these moving parts and lots of pieces that district leaders don’t have firm answers to yet as we try and plan for what’s going to be the rest of our year,” Mooney said.
That doesn’t mean the district is simply waiting. They are starting with a small step towards reopening on Tuesday, resuming the limited in-person instruction format that was in operation before the COVID-19 case count in the district rose.
“We had to pause that,” she said. “We’re bringing that back on Jan. 19, and really looking at a scale-up of that limited in-person instruction.”
