City beats 2020 housing goal

PENDLETON – The Pendleton Housing and Neighborhood Improvement Committee has delivered its annual report to the city council, and Mayor John Turner said it was good news, with permits being issued for 77 new units.

“About 30 of those were homes and about 47 of them were apartments last year,” Turner said. “Our goal is to add 50 new units a year. Over the last four years we have averaged 50 new units a year.”

Turner expects apartment construction to continue in 2021. The primary focus for the coming year is attracting more home builders.

“We need to build more single-family homes, from low-income to executive-level homes,” he said. “We’re quietly having some discussions with some developers to see how we might make that happen.”
