OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Health is going to stay with the original plan of recommending two full doses of the novel coronavirus vaccines. Other officials across the nation are considering reducing doses or only giving a single dose in order to stretch the vaccines that are available.
The half-dose or single-dose method has been discussed only for people under the age of 55. The Centers for Disease Control is considering that proposal this week.
One of the officials for Operation Warp Speed, the nation’s vaccine delivery program, said clinical data shows the vaccine can be just as effective in smaller doses for younger and middle-aged persons. The Department of Health said that experts guiding vaccine distribution have not yet recommended a change in the dosage and the state is following that guidance
