71-year-old Pendleton man suffers gunshot wound in Grant County

On September 18th 2024 near 1030am, Deputies responded to the report of an individual that had shot himself in the leg on accident, north of Long Creek Oregon. 

Initial information obtained was that William Hamby, 71, of Pendleton Oregon, had been manipulating a 1911 style .45 pistol while a passenger in a vehicle traveling to John Day on Hwy 395, when it discharged. 

The discharged round from the pistol struck Mr. Hamby in the lower left leg, causing significant damage. 

Mr. Hamby was transported to the Blue Mt. Hospital and then flown from there to another facility by a Life Flight helicopter. 

There is no word on his current condition.
