4th of July pursuit begins in Baker, ends in Umatilla County

EASTERN OREGON – The Oregon State Police stopped a vehicle that had led troopers on a pursuit from Baker City and through La Grande to near Pendleton on the 4th of July. It took spike strips to bring the Subaru BRZ to a halt at milepost 233 westbound on Interstate 84.

James M. Castaneda was transported to St. Anthony Hospital and was cleared medically and taken to the Umatilla County Jail Thursday afternoon. He is facing pending charges of reckless driving, attempt to elude in a vehicle, and resisting arrest.

Troopers from OSP’s Pendleton barracks were assisted by the Umatilla Tribal Police Department and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.

Editor’s note: We will update this story when we have information regarding the beginning of the pursuit as well as Castaneda’s incarceration information. As of Saturday, he is not listed on the roster for the Umatilla County Jail.
