HARNEY COUNTY (Released from Burns Interagency Fire Zone)-It’s PILE BURNING season, and we have over 4,000 acres scattered across Harney County on the schedule. Burning could start this week! Specifics:

• Willow Reservoir, 103 acres, located at willow reservoir

• Radar Hill Fire Break, 33 acres off the Hines logging road

• Hay Creek 2, 237 acres in the Hay creek area 16 miles northwest of Burns

Horton Mill PCT 3 Units 1-3, 321 acres, 13 miles Northwest of Burns

• Trail Flat 1 & 2 556 acres, 9 miles Northwest of Drewsey

• Lauserica units 4-6, 803 acres

• Tombstone WSA Unit 1, 244 acres

• Chimney Unit 1 & 3, 650 acres

• Frazier Units 99 and 2, 229 acres

• Krumbo unit 3, 61 acres

• Riddle Brothers Ranch unit 2022, 33 acres

• North Steens Wildlife unit 3, 355 acres

• Riddle Brothers Ranch unit 2023, 34 acres

• South Steens Thin unit 1, 223 acres

Slash pile burning is one of the most common wood-waste disposal methods used in fuels management today. “Slash” is generally woody debris left over from salvage logging or fuels reduction treatments. Piles are burned in specific weather conditions and are an effective and efficient way to help maintain balanced and healthy ecosystems.
