WALLA WALLA – A group of adults detained a man with a knife Wednesday night at Menlo Park, 1242 Alvarado Terrace, until Walla Walla police officers could arrive.

The suspect, later identified as Ryan D. Vandenburgh, 45, of Walla Walla, was standing near the playground and was making families uncomfortable as they were arriving for sports practice.

According to police, a parent confronted Vandenburgh and told him that he needed to leave. A verbal argument followed by physical altercation began. This is when Vandenburgh pulled a knife and made threatening gestures with it.
