(From OF&R Chief Clint Benson)
On May 30th, 2026, Ontario Fire & Rescue (OF&R) was dispatched for a grass fire with structures threatened at 4280 Ramuda Lane, in the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District. OF&R immediately requested a general page and responded from Station 1 with a type 5 brush engine (crew of 3) and a command vehicle (crew of 1). Upon arrival, OF&R found an approximately 2-acre fire, backing rapidly (against the wind) and began a direct attack. Incident command requested mutual aid from Vale Fire (water tender), Payette Fire (brush engine), and Fruitland Fire (brush engine). Crews were able to contain the fire at approximately 3-acres and keep fire from damaging nearby structures. There were no injuries reported. The apparent cause of the fire was an active burn pile that spread to surrounding vegetation. In total, four brush engines, two water tenders, and two command vehicles took part in the operation.
Firefighters in the area are experiencing August-like fuel conditions. Outdoor burning, even small fires, can spread very quickly, especially in breezy conditions.
