Hermiston man arrested in cockfighting investigation

HERMISTON – A Hermiston man was arrested last week as the result of a continued investigation into a December 2024 cockfighting case. Mario Quevedo Perez, 74, was taken into custody at the Viewcrest Apartments at 525 SW 13th Place in Hermiston.
This investigation began on December 1, 2024, when Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a cockfighting event in progress on Klaus Road in Hermiston. Twenty people, including children, fled the scene at that time and over 30 fighting roosters were seized. At that time only one person, Francisco Hernandez Ramirez, 49, of Kennewick was detained.
UCSO reminds the public that cockfighting is a Class C felony. People who are aware of such events are asked to report them to law enforcement.
