BAKER CITY – (Release from Baker City Public Works) All students from kindergarten through 6th grade are invited tocelebrate 150 years of Arbor Day by participating in our 2022 Arbor Day Poster Contest sponsored by the Baker City Public Works Department and the Baker City Tree Board. Posters will be judged by the Public Arts Committee.
The theme for 2022, “Give a Tree a Friend” was inspired by the well-known artist Bob Ross: “You know me, I think there ought to be a big old tree right there. And let’s give him a friend. Everybody needs a friend.” -Bob Ross.
Trees play a positive role in our community both aesthetically and by increasing property values, saving energy, assisting to reduce noise, glare, and reflective heat, as well as helping to improve the environment and quality of life for everyone. Improving students’ understanding of trees, and the benefits they provide is an important step toward the appreciation of trees in our forests, and community.
The deadline for the Poster Contest is April 22, 2022.
