ATHENA – The Athena-Weston School District has two upcoming meetings to share information about the proposed general obligation bond measure on the May 19 ballot, and one of them is today (Thursday).
The public is invited to attend the Community Farm Fair & Bond Information Event from 5-7 p.m. at Weston-McEwen High School. There will be much more to do than talk about a bond measure. The evening includes livestock, booths highlighting agriculture-related businesses, community colleges, and FFA and 4-H projects. There are also activities for kids and the popular FFA plant sale.
Another bond information session will be held Saturday at the Sugar Shack in Athena. The Coffee and Bond Q & A is from 8-9 a.m.
If the voters approve the bond, a new career, trades, and technical education center will be built on the Athena campus. The 10-year bond will maintain the district’s 2025-26 bond property tax rate of $1.24 per $1,000 of assessed value. The bond will realize $4.98 million and that amount would be matched with a state grant.
