PENDLETON – A couple was charged with stealing a small safe from the Motel 6 parking lot. Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram said the crime occurred on Oct. 8 at the motel on Southeast Nye Avenue.

A guest staying overnight forgot he placed a small safe on his vehicle as he was checking out of the Motel 6. It fell on the ground in the parking lot as he left.

“Video surveillance showed a person that the investigating officer knew to be Sara C. Shaver, a 38-year-old Pendleton resident pick up the safe and leave in a vehicle with another person,” Byram stated. “The investigation revealed that the other person in the vehicle was Tyson F. Jones, a 45-year-old man with a Long Beach, Oregon address.”

Both individuals were arrested on Oct. 30. Byram said that the vehicle contained a substantial amount of money, making the charge felony first-degree theft. He reported that almost all of the money said to be stolen was recovered.
