JOHN DAY – New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Jane Kirkpatrick was in KJDY Studios on June 6th during her visit to Grant County. On June 5th, Kirkpatrick spoke at the Prairie City Senior Center, sharing her thoughts on resilience. This included a presentation, Q&A, and book signing. She also made a stop at Painted Sky Center for the Arts. Following her time at our studio, she headed to the Grant County Library.
Kirkpatrick recalled her time at Painted Sky, when local women shared their own stories of excitement in waiting for Jane’s books to come into the local library:
“That was probably one of the best reviews that I’ve ever had, is to know that those stories touched the lives of what I call ‘ordinary people.’ Because these women that I write about are ordinary people, but they did extraordinary things, and that’s what I see as ‘country people.’”
Kirkpatrick mentioned that two of her novels, Love to Water My Soul, and A Sweetness to the Soul have connections to the John Day area.
Jane said on Monday, June 3rd, she turned in her forty-first book for publication. Set on the Oregon Coast, it’s called Across the Crying Sands, and will be out in May, 2025.
