BAKER COUNTY – On Friday, January 12, at approximately 4:45 P.M., the Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a large crash on I–84 Eastbound near milepost 332, north of Huntington. The crash would ultimately close the highway for seven hours and involve approximately 15 different vehicles. OSP have since released the following description of the incident:
“OSP responded to a multi vehicle crash on 1-84 East, near mile marker 332. A commercial motor vehicle lost traction on icy road conditions while navigating a right-hand corner. The CMV stuck approximately 100 yards of guard rail which caused its hood to land in the lane of travel. Another CMV attempted to avoid the hood, which caused his CMV to jack-knife and blocked both lanes of travel. Subsequently, several vehicles crashed into each other that were unable to get stopped in the icy conditions.
Some minor injuries were reported, none of which needed any medical attention. The freeway was shut down for approximately 7 hours while OSP and ODOT cleared the freeway. Approximately 15 vehicles were involved in the incident.”
