Baker City man who attempted to Elude Deputies charged with DUII

BAKER COUNTY- (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On October 29, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Deputy Talon Colton was traveling on Highway 30 when he observed a pickup passing multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed. Deputy Colton activated his emergency lights, turned around, and began following the pickup. The driver of the pickup continued and reached speeds estimated over 90 mph. Near the intersection of Pocahontas Road and Anthony Lakes Highway, Deputy Colton lost sight of the vehicle but continued on Anthony Lakes Highway. During this time, a witness called Baker County Sheriffโ€™s Office Dispatch reporting the suspect vehicle, a Toyota Tundra with body damage on the right-hand side, drove past his residence in that area.ย 

Deputy Colton saw a similar-looking vehicle in the area and stopped the vehicle at 48540 Foothill Road to determine if they had been involved in the incident. As he made contact, a 2000 Toyota Tundra with body damage pulled into the driveway. Deputy Colton made contact with the driver, identified as Robert Anthony Rigsby (36 yoa). Rigsby acknowledged that he knew Deputy Colton was following him and purposely tried to speed away from the stop.After investigation, Deputy Colton transported Rigsby to the Baker County Jail where he provided a breath sample over 3 times the legal limit. Rigsby was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, and Attempt to Elude.
