WALLA WALLA – A motorcyclist was injured Tuesday morning after striking a front-end loader as it attempted to make a u-turn in the roadway. The Washington State Patrol said the accident happened at 10:34 a.m. at Division Street and Edgewood Street.

Fernando Tello Alvarado, 21, of Walla Walla was traveling northbound on Division Street on his Suzuki motorcycle when a front-end loader, operated by Zachary Hyndman, 41, of Walla Walla, tried to turn around in the roadway in front of Alvarado. The front-end loader, which had its caution lights activated, was set up for leaf collection.

Alvarado’s motorcycle struck the piece of heavy equipment, then left the roadway and struck a fence. Troopers say Alvarado was not wearing a helmet, sustained injuries and was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center. No further details on his injuries or condition were released.

Hyndman was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Troopers said charges are pending against him.

Drugs or alcohol were not involved, and the collision is under investigation.
