PENDLETON – The Pendleton Round-Up begins when the cannon sounds at 1:15 p.m. today (Wednesday). The day also salutes Famers Ending Hunger.

Downtown at 3 p.m., the Main Street Cowboys Main Street Show and Carnival kicks off, featuring four stages with live entertainment and novelty acts.

As the sun begins to set, the spotlight turns to the Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show at the Happy Canyon Arena. Curtain goes up at 7:45 p.m.

Happy Canyon Show Director Becky Waggoner made her debut as a baby in a trunk when she was just an infant. She has watched her children perform that role as parts are passed on through generations at the show. She said the show is more than just entertainment, although there’s plenty of that. There’s also the history of the Pendleton area.

“You are picturing history right where it happened,” she said. “Right behind the grandstand is where the Oregon Trail went via the Umatilla River.” After the show, Goldie’s Bar at the Tavern embraces the 21 and older audience with gambling and live music. Admission is free with a Happy Canyon ticket.
