WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners meet today (Monday) at 9 a.m. to consider approving a request from Community Development Director Lauren Prentice to unlock the building at 310 West Poplar St. once recommended security upgrades are made.

The community development department’s offices, along with the coroner and emergency medical services are located in that building.

Due to past security concerns, the building has been locked, forcing customers to use a call box to gain access. She said there have been complaints about the call box and there is a perception that the department is unavailable to assist customers.

The commissioners will also consider approving an extension to the interlocal agreement allowing juveniles taken into custody in Umatilla County to be housed at the Walla Walla County Juvenile Justice Center.
