WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools got its special election day wish from voters – the replacement education programs and operation levy and a capital levy to improve outdoor athletic and activities facilities.

The WWPS learning levy, which voters approved 65 percent to 35 percent, remains capped at $2.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value. It will run from 2025 to 2028.

Voters approved the WWPS short-term, six-year, capital levy, 58 percent to 42 percent. It will cost about $3 per month for every $100,000 of assessed value. It will be used to update outdoor space for athletics, activities, JROTC, physical education, marching band and other outside programming, including community use.

“Approval of both measures ensures the continuation of programs and learning opportunities funded by the replacement learning Levy and critical improvements to outdoor athletic and activity facilities at Walla Walla High School, Pioneer Middle School and Garrison Middle School,” Superintendent Wade Smith said.

Smith added that Walla Walla Public School’s capital levy construction will begin this summer with all projects slated for completion by fall 2026.

Voters also approved the replacement education programs and operation levies for the school districts in both Dixie and Waitsburg, according to preliminary and official results Tuesday night.

All levy propositions required a simple majority to pass, 50 percent plus one vote.
