Vehicle fire spreads to brush, slows traffic on I-84 near Arlington

ARLINGTON — A vehicle fire on Interstate 84 spread to nearby brush Sunday morning, causing reduced visibility and impacting westbound traffic about 18 miles west of Arlington, authorities said.

Emergency crews from the North Gilliam Rural Fire Protection District and the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the fire near milepost 119, around 8 a.m.

As the flames spread into surrounding vegetation, local responders requested mutual aid from the Boardman Fire Rescue District, Sherman County Fire agencies, and the South Gilliam County Rural Fire Protection District to help contain the blaze.

No injuries or road closures were immediately reported.
