UCSO identifies body

UMATILLA COUNTY – News release from UCSO: On February 18th, 2024 the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Cache Hollow Rd and Walla Walla River Rd, Milton Freewater, in regards to a report of a possible deceased person. UCSO Patrol Deputy Todd Siex responded and was able to confirm there was a deceased female in the area. Due to the location of the body, assistance from the Umatilla County Search and Rescue team was requested for recovery.
Subsequent investigation, in cooperation with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and Milton Freewater Police Department, have developed sufficient information to identify the decedent as Shelby Lynn Cunningham. Cunningham was previously reported as a missing person out of Milton Freewater and was 20 years of age at the time of her death.
The Sheriff’s Office investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing. Further information will be released when available.
