PENDLETON – Mayor John Turner spoke via telephone to Gov. Tina Kotek today (Monday) regarding the lack of funding for projects in the Pendleton area. He said they talked about two projects specifically.

One is the workforce housing road that would bring water and other utilities to the Rees-Goad property east of Pendleton. Without the road and its accompanying services, the land currently cannot be developed. The other was a request for funding from the Pendleton Children’s Center, a new daycare facility near the Pendleton Early Learning Center that wants to expand to include more children in need of daycare.

“She was very welcoming and cordial,” Turner said of his conversation with Kotek. “I would say she is enthusiastic about these projects.”

While the Oregon Legislature failed to include funds for the two projects in the state’s new budget, Kotek provided Turner with some hope.

“She said she will instruct her staff to work with us on possible funding,” he said.
