LA GRANDE – Recently the La Grande Parks and Rec Department provided an opportunity on what the public would like to see in La Grande on a plan for the next 5-years.  Nearly 500 online surveys were completed which will be put into a draft plan for public input in January.  Stu Spence Director of Parks and Rec in La Grande said, “Overwhelmingly one of the top needs identified has been trails, connectivity, and accessibility”.  Spence went on and said, “We do not have many community trails in La Grande, one being the Greenway Trail, at Riverside Park which dead ends, which hasn’t been very effective”.   An accessible connected pathway in La Grande seems to be the main response that the public wants to see in the years to come.

The Riverside Park Greenway Trail will be extended with a generous grant from the Oregon State Parks Recreation Trail Program.  Spence said the trail will be extended 1,600 linear feet which will consist of a loop trail.  That project hopes to be completed in the late spring.  Enhanced landscaping and outdoor exercise equipment is planned to be added to this extension in the future.
