Stolen gun found during traffic stop

MILTON-FREEWATER – Oregon State Police reports a routine moving violation stop on a vehicle on Highway 11 near milepost 14 turned up a gun that had been reported stolen out of Walla Walla County.

The trooper found the firearm in the SUV being driven by Tyler Dwayne Harshfield, 39, of Milton-Freewater. Trooper Tyler Steele took possession of the gun and has placed it into evidence.

The OSP report has been forwarded to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. The possible charge that is being recommended is first-degree theft by receiving.

The Umatilla County DA’s office frequently works with the Walla Walla County prosecuting attorney’s office in determining charges that possibly span state lines.
