BAKER CITY – Winter weather has once again fallen upon Eastern Oregon.  During the winter in particular it is a good idea to keep items available in your vehicle in the event of a breakdown or even a road closure that leaves you stranded.

Some items that are suggested include, a warm coat, blanket, extra clocking, including socks.  Other helpful things to keep on hand is water or snacks, extra fuel (if safe to carry and transport extra), a cellphone charger and of course having someone who knows where you are traveling to and when you should be expected. Baker City Manager Jonathan Cannon issued some helpful tips regarding fire safety for those who use fire heat to stay warm during these cold winter months.  “Space heaters should be plugged into outlets with enough amperage and circuit breakers to handle the load. Keeping paper, trash, and wood debris clear from a wood or gas stove will reduce the likelihood of fire.”  Cannon also encourages citizens to speak to their local fire department for additional tips regarding fire safety.
