PENDLETON – Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan says law enforcement officers are not the only public safety personnel who could benefit from being equipped with body cameras. He’s talking to the county’s federal grants writer to explore putting body cams on jail employees.

“We had a conference call with them just specific to law enforcement, public safety, and any grants that are potentially coming,” Rowan said.

As Rowan studies the possibilities for jailer body cams, he said he’s also working on other systems with the county’s leasing agent.

“We’re making sure that we’re maintaining our in-car video and also equipping our deputies with body-worn cameras,” he said.
